Do you have Plantar Fasciitis or Heel Pain and are wondering when you can return to running pain free? This is a real problem for runners who are stricken with this condition and rightfully so. Being able to return to running or back to ones previous lifestyle whether that be recreational or competitively is important.

The exact cause of Plantar Fasciitis is not known but some people believe one is excessive walking or running, another is being overweight and a third is a sudden starting, increasing or restarting of any weight bearing activity or sport that stresses the fascia or tissues on the bottom of the foot.
The risk factors for it include being flat footed or having a high arch, running shoes that do not fit properly and gait deviations ie either excessive inversion (turning in) or eversion (turning out) of ones ankle and foot during the gait cycle. There is also a greater incidence that I have personally seen with many patients during growth phase of human development and more in female that male runners.

The best treatment for plantar fasciitis is to thoroughly evaluate all of the contributing factors that could be causing or leading to the signs and symptoms in each particular patients case and addressing them one by one. Their is no cookie cutter way to do this because it is different in each and every patient’s case.
