Want to Keep Running & For Longer?"Hi, I'm Peter Chirico with Chirico Physical Therapy and Wellness. Today we're going to go over a tip for runners. It's kind of educational and common sense at the same time. The point of it is that we don't want your injury to get to the chronic stage. In injury recovery, there's acute and chronic stages. In the acute stage, which is the first ... Say, that happened recently, within the first one or two weeks of it or you just started running and you've got this new pain that you never had before and won't let go or go away. Chronic pain would be something that occurred three to six months ago or longer and it's still going on.
The problem is that the longer you allow that pain to go without treatment or allow that pain to become chronic, the longer it takes for recovery to occur. I know ... Again, this is kind of common sense but runners, and I'm a runner myself, tend to be a little bit stubborn and tend to think they can run through everything and the majority of the time that doesn't work. A good example of this is if someone gives me a call or if we see them in the office and they say, "I've had this heel pain or plantar fasciitis for two years." How long do you think it's going to take for that person to recover and become pain free and get back to running and training? It's not going to be two weeks, it's going to be two months or longer and it can be over a year for somebody like that to recover so you don't want your injury to become or get to the chronic stage. The other thing to be aware of with this is, when we see people in the acute stage their running problems are fairly easy for us to solve. We get them better usually within two to four visits or two weeks and they're back to running pain free and training. I hope that you don't have an injury but it you do that this helps you understand the importance of addressing it quickly. I hope this video was helpful and that you enjoyed watching it. If you do have an injury and we can help you solve it, give us a call at area code 909-345-3370 or you can contact us through our website at Chirico Physical Therapy or chiricopt.com and we'll get you in for a thorough evaluation and get you back to running pain free and training again.
